FIC: Stop My Heart, Cocaine and Heroin
Title: Stop My Heart, Cocaine and Heroin
Author: [info]serotonin_storm
Fandom: Numb3rs
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Don/Charlie, Don/Kim
Warnings: incest
Word Count: 250 words
Summary: the thing about Kim was that she was like a goddamn drug.
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Notes: For [info]numb3rs100 (prompt: addiction). Nominated at [info]numb3rs_awards. Edited 12/9/08.

When he was younger, just being in the vicinity of Kim could make him feel high.

It wasn't just that she was beautiful; but, god yes, was she beautiful. It wasn't that she understood him, shared his love for the job and commitment to the thrill of the chase, that she loved to put the bad guys away. It wasn't even that she had a particular fondness for throwing him down on the bed and fucking his brains out – not that that didn't help. He was damn fond of it himself.

No, the thing about Kim was that she was like a goddamn drug. One line of her, of her beauty and her big personality, and it dulled everything else. He didn't have to think about his family, so many hundreds of miles away. Or his brother and all those hurt looks. And the other kind of looks, too, the ones he didn't want to think about; she could make them disappear.

Getting that phone call from his father about his mother's cancer (and Charlie, god, Charlie) was like rapid detox. Necessary, but so fucking painful it ripped him into a number of jagged pieces that only his little brother could ever count. Back home before he could blink, and it only took one look at Charlie's broken face until he was off Kim for good.

He'd only ever really traded one drug for another, anyway. Now he was trading back.

Wow. Poor Don never had a chance, eh? Very nice use of the theme!

Oh, *very* good. Love the parallels between the drug that is Kim and the drug that is Charlie.

I was going to ask where the title came from. I like the juxtaposition of Charlie (a street name for Cocaine) and Kim as Heroin (Her and Heroine as her job/appeal).

Great use of the prompt!

No, I just made the title up. I'm not one of those people that likes to use song lyrics and such. There's nothing wrong with that, but I can just as easily come up with something on my own.

I'm glad you liked it. I'll change the header for the other drabble right now.

I'm so in love with this line it's a little ridiculous. Great job.

The very believability of this is painful.
